Family Letter for Students with Special Education Services Transitioning to Kindergarten 2024-2025

Dear Families,

It is time to begin the process of enrolling your student in kindergarten for the 2024-2025 school year! Your child’s Early Childhood Special Education team will be here to make the transition as easy as possible. To begin:

Watch the General School Enrollment Process video in the language of your choice (English, Hmong, Spanish, or Somali).

Review the Kindergarten Enrollment presentation for students receiving special education services.

Follow the steps on the Minneapolis Public Schools website to request a school at https://exploremps.org/Schools/Steps

Requests must be submitted by January 31st, 2024 to have the best chance of receiving your first choice of school and/or inclusion into a magnet school lottery. Families will receive placement notification letters in early March. After this time, your special education team will work with you to schedule a meeting with the new school team to smooth the transition for your child for the fall.
