Home and Community Based Services
Minneapolis Public Schools provides services for children based on their needs and is guided by the Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP) or their Individual Education Program (IEP). Services can be provided:
At home
- Our role in home based services is to provide support to you and your child at home in order to increase engagement and learning based on your child's needs guided by your child's IFSP or IEP. We also provide instruction in pre-academic skills following the District's Early Childhood curriculum. Working together with you, as the parent or caregiver, we can ensure your child is able to have meaningful learning at home through your family's routines.
- Services may include:
- Coaching & consultation: teaming with you as parent/ caregiver to help your child be successful within their home environment.
- Teaching targeted skills during routines at home.
At your child's childcare setting
- Our role in community based childcare or preschool settings (Daycares, Early Childhood Family Education, Headstart, and more) is to provide support throughout the day in order to increase engagement and learning based on your child's needs guided by your child's IFSP or IEP. We also provide instruction in pre-academic skills following the district's Early Childhood curriculum. Working together as a team, we can ensure students have meaningful preschool experiences and a solid foundation for future learning.
- Services may include:
- Coaching & consultation: teaming with regular education staff and parents to help your child be successful within their natural environments (home and/or classroom settings).
- Providing ongoing observation & documentation.
- Teaching & reinforcing targeted skills during classroom routines.
- Using adaptations in the classroom (i.e.. picture schedules, social stories).
- Working within small groups.
- Providing one-to-one assessment or intervention.
